RECREATED ART AND SOUL
by Kathryn Arnett
Artfully Recycled - Soulfully Recreated
Kathryn
Arnett, the artist and founder of Recreated Art and Soul of Fort Worth,
Texas, is a true visionary and a leader in inspiring others to be creative
while recycling. Her first trip to a scrap yard in 1991 unexpectedly touched
a creative part of her. Seeing the enormous piles of scrap metal triggered a
visual and visceral emotion in her that instantaneously flowed into her art
forms. She had recreated her art as well as her soul.
Kathryn clarifies that “Everyone has choices to make in their lives. I have
chosen to recycle scrap materials to create my art forms. To recycle is to
take special care of ourselves, the future of our children and our planet."

Her functional and non-functional home and garden accessories include
angels, hearts, wall pockets, magnets, rock flowers, flower bouquets, family
characters, and birdhouses. Her medium is primarily recycled corrugated tin
that is hand painted using bright "happy" custom mixed colors. Kathryn's
reputation for unique color combinations and excellent design utilizes not
only the tin, but incorporates recycled wood and wire as well.
When Kathryn originally started making her art it was piece by piece. She
would see a piece of scrap metal and instantly visualize an art form. Much
of the time she designs outdoors using the natural color spectrum...... the
succession of leaves changing from green to yellow to red, or even how bark
on the trees changes as it gets older. Kathryn plucks ideas from nature and
dreams about many of her designs. For example, while sitting by a rocky
stream one day she observed beautiful, colorful flowers growing near the
bank and her "This Flower Rocks" design was born. The wire roots of the
flower grow around the river rock and then travel upward to the colorful tin
blossom above.
When she creates using something from the past it integrates into the
present. The resonance she has with the scrap materials, and the flow of
creativity they inspire, opens up a part of her that is a rebirth. She feels
very fortunate to have a career she is so passionate about.
Kathryn Arnett's work can be found in over 1,500 galleries, shops, garden
centers, museums, and catalogs throughout the United States and Europe.
Articles have been published about her and her philosophy in the New York
Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Architectural Digest, Country Homes and
Niche to name a few. She has received numerous awards and honors and has
exhibited work in galleries across the country. Kathryn's clients have
included Oprah Winfrey, Cher, Halle Berry, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Gloria
Estefan, and Michael Jackson.
Kathryn looks forward to meeting more people who share her views about
putting less in our landfills and protecting the planet we all call home.
